Let’s celebrate the winners! Students will have an opportunity to listen and read award winning children’s books that have been recognized for excellence. Caldecott winners as well as North Carolina Children’s Book Award selections will be introduced. Children will develop listening and comprehension skills and explore various artistic mediums that the illustrators use to create books.
Students laughed their way through this story about a little guy who is convinced that his body is falling apart, until finally, his parents tell him that things like losing teeth are normal. Students will draw a picture on Paint, depicting their favorite part of this book, and will use these to explain how Ted Arnold did such a great job with illustrations that explain the details of the book.

Students listened to this story. On one page, the child in the book daydreams about some people that could be seen out of the Hello, Goodbye Window. Students were asked to draw a picture of who they would like to see outside of their Hello, Goodbye Window.

Students listened to this classic story, and we discussed why the pictures were just all brown and white. After the story was over, students were invited to illustrate a main event from the story, using only brown and white!!

Students watched a video of someone reading this book, with the audio off. They basically took a picture walk through a book that most of them already know. Then, they were given construction paper and chalk to re-create a scene from the book, showing their understanding of what Peter did in the snow.
